The history of Red Cross Drug Store unfolds against the backdrop of the Grande Ronde Valley and starts with Bob Coulter, a hometown guy, whose roots run deep in La Grande.
The game-changer hit when Bob, along with his pharmacist wife, Sue, purchased the keys to Red Cross Drug Store in 1983. That kicked off their four-decade run in the pharmaceutical scene. The store itself, standing tall since 1903, had passed through various hands up to that point.
Bob’s entrepreneurial spirit ignited when his big-box gig hinted at a California move. No thanks. He wanted La Grande. So, he and Sue took the plunge into business ownership by purchasing Red Cross Drug Store. Over the years, Bob has championed local pharmacy at the state and national level, serving on the United Drug and AAP board for 20+ years. He’s earned numerous awards in the process, like the Bowl of Hygeia in 2005 and the Icon Pharmacy in 2012. Meanwhile Sue has served as a pillar of calm strength, running the day-to-day operations of their store.

Leah is our General Manager who ensures everything runs smoothly behind the scenes, keeping our pharmacy mission fresh and alive. Growing up in the pharmacy, Leah has done every single job there is (with a few exceptions) over the years. She started took over as a general manager in 2010. She’s been dedicated to serving the Red Cross Drug Store family ever since.
Leah’s not just about managing operations; she’s actively involved in community initiatives. She’s served on the Main Street board and even held the position of board president from 2013-2015. Red Cross Drug Store also received the Business of the Year Award for Oregon in 2015 – a highlight for Leah. She’s driven by simple acts of kindness and empowerment. Whether it’s greeting with a smile or equipping her team with knowledge, she loves making a difference in people’s lives, contributing to hope and joy in the community.

Darcy oversees both our retail and institutional pharmacy, providing guidance to patients on nutrient depletion and offering personalized consultations. Darcy’s been a part of our team since 2010, graduating from Washington State University College of Pharmacy. Darcy is passionate about helping people achieve their health goals, enabling them to lead more active, healthier lives.

Meet Misty Golden, our Operations Manager who’s been the backbone of our operations since 2015, ensuring everything runs like a well-oiled machine.
Misty takes immense pride in earning the trust and respect of everyone at Red Cross Drug Store. Being part of a hometown welcoming pharmacy brings her great joy, especially when she hears praises from our customers.

Michelle Budd is a Staff Pharmacist who splits her time between retail and institutional pharmacy. She finds satisfaction in helping people, taking the time to listen to their stories and experiences. Understanding what has or hasn’t worked for them is crucial in her approach to care. Michelle recognizes the importance of community pharmacy, often being the first point of contact for many. She’s witnessed firsthand how being attentive can catch serious issues that may otherwise go unnoticed.

Jeff, our Staff Pharmacist, is the go-to guy for ensuring prescription accuracy. He’s been an integral part of the team since 2016. Apart from his pharmacy duties, Jeff enjoys lending a helping hand through counseling, finding joy in making things easier for others.
